Boygenius have reocrded a cover of “The Parting Glass,” a song by Sinéad O’Connor, with all proceeds going to charity. The single is part of Boygenius member Phoebe Bridgers‘ long–running holiday single series with this year’s single featuring her bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker (plus Irish folk duo Ye Vagabonds) for the first time.
“The Parting Glass” will benefit the Aisling Project, a charity providing education and life skills to disadvantaged young people in Dublin, Ireland. The charity was hand-picked by the Sinéad O’Connor Estate.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Boygenius have chosen to give proceeds from the release to Aisling Project,” says Project leader Mícheál Clear. “It’s an absolute privilege to be associated with the stunningly beautiful homage to Sinead O’Connor and we can’t possibly thank Boygenius enough.”
The original version of “The Parting Glass” features on O’Connor’s Sean-Nós Nua, which was released in 2002. O’Connor passed away in July at the age of 56.
Boygenius recently collected five Grammy nominations, including a nod for The Record in the Album of the Year category.
