Doja Cat updates oddly familiar Scarlet cover

On Tuesday (August 29), Doja Cat shared that her next album will be titled Scarlet and is due out September 22. The announcement came with what appeared to be the album’s cover art. But, as Pop Crave noted that night, the image was nearly identical to the previously shared cover of the German death metal band Chaver’s forthcoming album, Of Gloom, due out the same day. Both covers are apparently the work of the artist Dusty Ray.

Doja Cat has now revealed an updated cover for Scarlet on Instagram, deleting her previous post. The new cover was reposted to Ray’s Instagram story. The FADER has reached out to Ray to confirm their authorship of the new art, and to a representative of Doja Cat to clarify whether the update to Scarlet’s cover is due to the previous cover’s similarities to the cover of the Chaver record.
