Eminem was almost in the cast of an Grand Theft Auto movie, as per an industry veteran from the video games industry near Rockstar Games.
Kirk Ewing, a friend of GTA creators Sam and Dan Houser, shed light on the debacle in the appearance of U.K. rapper Bugzy Malone’s Grandest Game podcast, dedicated to the most popular franchise.
Ewing admitted that the story of how a Hollywood agent offered him the idea soon following the launch of Grand Theft Auto III in 2001. By that time, Eminem was among the most popular rappers of the game due to his blockbuster album from 2000 the Marshall Mathers LP.
The Houser brothers had been offered the sum of $5million in exchange for their rights in a film that starred the Detroit rapper, who was written by Top Gun director Tony Scott. The duo was contemplating an upcoming movie that would tie in to the game, Sam Houser turned down the deal.
“[The agenttold Kirk: ‘Kirk We’ve been given Eminem to be the main character in the film, and it’s an Tony Scott film. Five million dollars on the sly. Do you want to know more? ‘” Ewing recalled. “And I rang Sam and said”Listen to this. They would like Eminem to be in The Grand Theft Auto film along with Tony Scott to direct. ‘”
He added: “And he said: ‘Not interested’ … They realized that the media franchise that they had was bigger than any movie that was going on at the time.”
Eminem doesn’t have to be the only rapper who has been pushed for making the transition into the Grand Theft Auto universe. In the past Dr. Dre was a part of and contributed new songs for The Contract, an update for Grand Theft Auto: Online.
Also featuring Anderson .Paak, DJ Pooh and Jimmy Iovine. The thrilling mission required players to retrieve Dre’s stolen cellphone with unreleased music and was assisted by the GTA V protagonist Franklin Clinton.
The high-profile collaboration released an array of exclusive tracks from the Dre vaults which include the collaborations of Snoop Dogg, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, Anderson .Paak Ty Dolla $ign as well as the legendary Nipsey Hussle. Eminem was also featured on the track “Gospel.”

Tyler, The Creator, Pusha T, Freddie Gibbs and others have also contributed original music for GTA V, while The Game, Ice-T and Danny Brown are among the most well-known actors who have voiced characters in the long-running, popular series.
While it was true that the Grand Theft Auto film didn’t go as planned, Eminem would go on to make his screen debut on the big screen in the film 8 Mile the semi-biographical battle-rap film which debuted in 2002. The Shady Records owner recently celebrated its 20th anniversary by making available an extended edition of the soundtrack streaming services.
