Nia Archives has given the Karen O the British makeover she didn’t know she needed. The London producer is certainly not the first to remix the Yeah Yeah Yeahs 2009 classic “Heads Will Roll.” But with “Off Wiv Ya Headz,” she’s replanted the well-trod source material in the fertile ground of jungle revival, nursing it back to life.
The new song arrives as Nia continues on her “Quintessential Junglist Summer” tour across Europe. Its lo-fi visual treatment, however, is set squarely in Yeah Yeah Yeahs territory. Mostly filmed in Downtown Brooklyn, the clip is full of kinetic quick cuts to the borough across the East River, applying the exact amount of cosmopolitan retrofuturism the track warrants.
