Melissa Barrera has been dropped from Scream VII after vocalizing her support for Palestinian civilians amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.

According to Deadline, sources said the actress was fired for using her to Instagram Story to repost pro-Palestinian content that was “perceived as antisemitic,” per the outlet. Barrera was previously expected to reprise her role as Sam Carpenter in the Spyglass Media-produced horror franchise.

In fan posts featuring screenshots of Barrera’s Story, there appears to be a combination of reposts and written statements from Barrera herself. Amongst the screenshots are a tweet that says, “if you’re wondering how the world watched when genocides and ethnic cleansing happened .. this is how” and a condemnation of “western media only [showing one] side.”

The Israeli government has been conducting an ongoing series of brutal attacks on the Gazan strip in response to a surprise attack by Hamas fighters on October 7. According to The Hill, the Health Ministry of the West Bank’s last reported that 13,000 Palestinians had been killed in the conflict. However, the Ministry of Health reportedly stopped publishing casualty counts on November 11 for unknown reasons.

Israel has so far experienced 1,200 casualties, most of which resulted from the October 7 attack.

The FADER has reached out to representatives for Barrera and Spyglass Media for comment.
