Soulja Boy has shared his thoughts on rappers who don nail polish and lipstick, revealing he’s not a fan of the look.
In a rant shared on his Instagram Live this week, Big Draco did his usual bout of flexing before diving into how “your favorite rapper” is probably on IG Live wearing lipstick and nail polish.
“I don’t put fingernail polish on my nails I don’t do – this is chapstick,” Soulja Boy said holding up his chapstick in response to a fan who asked why he was “putting lipstick on.”
“Why don’t you go on your favorite rapper live and ask him why he got fingernail polish on? Or ask him why he got lipstick on?” he continued. “Nah, you wanna come to a real n-gga live, a real gangster and play with a n-gga talking about some chapstick, man. Stop playing.
“But when your real favorite rapper put fingernail polish on his nails, y’all don’t see that shit huh? Y’all don’t see that though, huh? He a gangster, right? … Y’all like to play with the real n-ggas, go play with the… n-ggas that actually put shit on they’re nails.”
He concluded: “Why y’all wanna play with a real gangster? I ain’t never put no motherfucking lipstick on and I never will.”
While it’s unclear who Big Draco may have been referring to, there are plenty of rappers who could be the target of his wrath, as Trippie Redd, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, NBA YoungBoy, Lil Yachty and Kid Cudi have all worn makeup in the past.
YoungBoy had spoken adamantly about wearing makeup, telling Akademiks in a Clubhouse chatroom back in 2021 that wearing makeup made him feel comfortable and like a “rockstar.”
“I like painting my face, putting makeup on,” he admitted. “I like to look in the mirror and see everything black. Like my eyes and sh*t… “Just, I don’t know. I feel comfortable that way.” He added that his engineer purchased makeup for him from MAC Cosmetics. “It give me like, the goth feeling, like rockstars.”
Kid Cudi unveiled painted nails on social media last July, and in turn was forced to turn off his Instagram comments after trolls criticized him for the look.
“Turned my comments off on Instagram,” he tweeted on July 17. “Seems people really have a problem w me painting my nails. I got tired of blockin so many accounts. I really need u to understand, if u don’t like me doin this or anything I do, please don’t buy my albums, don’t come to my shows. Fuck way off.”
As for Playboi Carti, he’s often breaking the internet with new looks, and in March unveiled a new Joker-inspired makeup look prior to his performance at Kanye West’s Donda 2 listening event in Miami.
The look evidently inspired Trippie Redd to do the same, who in September revealed a look consisting of heavy black eyeliner and makeup similar in style to Carti.
While lipstick-wearing rappers are the target of Soulja Boy’s latest rant, he also recently came for Elon Musk, and criticized the Tesla mogul’s handling of Twitter after taking over the company in October. Soulja said in turn he plans to launch his own social media app.
“Now u can just pay to be verified? Twitter has been destroyed,” Soulja Boy said, fittingly enough, on Twitter. “Bro leave twitter alone @elonmusk wtf are you doing.”
